My Creative Process (or How I Get Inspired)

One of the ways I get inspired is to explore new places with my camera. It brings me so much joy to discover a new find!! My creative process gets a jump start as I look for possibilities that intrigue my imagination. I can't wait to take these treasures home and open them up in Photoshop!!

When I was vacationing in Minnesota in the summer, there were so many beautiful things that inspired me — but a group of red dahlias in a wooden barrel planted right outside our log cabin caught my eye.

After I got home, I started to play around with the photo I had taken. This is the process I always take after a photo shoot. I adjust my photos in Photoshop Raw, working with the exposure, filters, levels, color balance, etc.

Here it is after the first set of adjustments:

But I wasn’t happy with that although I felt it stood out on its own merit. I started to adjust the colors and manipulate the filters even further. Here is what I ended up with:

Purple Dahlia

I really loved the transformation, but I also felt this would make a great oil painting. So I cropped it into a square composition. This is the result. Hope you like it!
